I picked up a rear end to build  so I would be able to do it myself and take my time an not have
down time on my truck since its my daily driver.
Plans are the Eaton mechanical locker that was code G80, 3.73 or 4.10 gears havnt decided yet, new bearings, break shoes and maybe some paint.
Also want to weld around the axel tubes since there are only two welds on each tube into the housing.
Anyone know what s-10s had this flat disc style yoke?

Damn mine is  98 an its not the flat one do you have a 4cyor 6cyl?
An I have a ext cab 5spd v6.
Im just trying to figure out what truck it came from.
Cause I want to know if i can use it or if I need to get the same one i have now.
I could always measure the two I guess haha

;D  Just won some used GM 4.10 on Ebay with bearings, so it will be 4.10's after all.

        Also ordered a install kit.

Flat yoke are that comes in with double cardan joint(shitty ass design) they are as stong as u-joint so doesn't matter which way you go with, you can swap yoke.

Good job on getting 4.10, that would be better than 3.73 for offroading and larger tires.

So you are saying this flat yoke could be used even though my tuck has the standard u yoke?
I guess the only difference could be the length between the u an flat yoke.

Yeah I figure 4.1o will be good and I am going to 32"s eventually too so its good.

Got the gears today they look really good for used, but they should since they have not
been fucked with since GM installed them so its no wonder that they look tits.
Also turns out they are 4.11 not 4.10 but whatever.

Sup duders,
Got most of the rear end apart today but the carrier/third member is in the tight as hell.
Im temped to do what ever it takes to get it out but dont want to go to ape shit on it.
Also obviously the pinion is still in, does the pinion interfere with the ring gear?
Thought might be why is tough to pull out.
Thanks

When I did mine I had to punch the pinion gear out before the ring gear would come out. Just take a sledge hammer and a punch to the pinion and punch it out  ;)

Ok ill try it I just didnt know if going ape shit on the pinion was the correct method but that carrier is tight as hell so needs to be tapped.
I am going to try right now thanks Blackie.

Cool that worked out well Blackie.

Hey another question for you

How does the oil seal thing come out for the pinion?
I got a new one with my rebuild kit an want to change it, do they press in or is it
just a tap tap with a dead blow.  I was going to just use a screw driver an pry it out but you seem to have the experience.
Thanks

Sanded the rear end going to lay some flat black rust oleum down.
