Looking to build or buy a rear end. I have my stock 3.42 and want to beef my Dime up. I've been doing my research on 9" Currie's. Any advice on Gear Ratio? I don't think 4.11 would do it justice. Too low maybe for off road enthusiast?

I'm currently building a 9" for my truck. I just got a set of 4.88 gears for it and will be getting a set of disc brakes shortly.  I'm running 4.88 to keep with the original tire/gear ratio of the stock set up.  Once I buy 32's the rear end will go in.

If you've got stock 3.42's....I'm guessing you have a 4.3 like mine? I installed the 8.8 with disc brakes in mine about 3 m0nths ago and I went with 3.55's (pushing my 33's). I WISH I would have went with at least 3.73's or even 4.11's (since this is mainly a highway daily driver). If you have the 4.3....there will be plenty of torque still as long as you go with 3.73's or higher (depending on the tire size you go with?)

Gear choice will be dependent upon original gear ratio and tire vs what your new tire size will be.  There are a few calculators on the web. I used this one http://www.ramblerman.com/blazer/gearcalc.htm. For me with a 4cyl and stock 4.10 i had to go all the way to 4.88 with the 32's

since my old tires were the 275R15 and Ive been running 30x9.5 it says to go 3.8 Gear Ratio. So probably that or the 4.56 with a posi/locker.

COLLIE RUNNER- what year was your buddies dime? Hard part about mine is its a 95. I dont have the chip and the K&N is made for 96 and newer. My K&N air filter is just the regular looking air filter from K&N that you clean and reuse.

03 but neat trick with the older tbi turn the lid on your filter cleaner box upside down it acts as a "ram" of sorts and allows the air to tunnel into the throttle body with less drag. also edelbrok makes a manifold both intake and exauhst thet are a direct bolt on and 50 state legal  ;D
